CATERING FOR COMMISSION STAFF BASED IN BRUSSELS
THANKS TO TAO, A MAJOR STEP FORWARD IS NEAR ...
PENDING FINAL DECISION

For several years, TAO has been working to improve the catering conditions of its most modestly paid colleagues. This work, often discreet but always determined, is now bearing fruit: a concrete proposal has been submitted to the administration, with the unanimous support of the Joint Catering Committee (CPRE).

Thanks to the in-depth analysis carried out by TAO, the CPRE was able to formulate a clear request: a targeted subsidy, reducing the price of a main course by €1 to €2 for approximately 1.300 colleagues, mainly GF I and II contract staff, as well as interns.

This measure is inspired by the model in place in Luxembourg (OIL), where a subsidy from the social budget already guarantees reduced prices in canteens.

The administration is stalling… but TAO insists.

The administration has acknowledged it has received our request, but it has indicated it needs more time to analyze it. This is a cautious response, but one that does not call into question the relevance of the proposal.

In response, the CPRE – strongly supported by TAO – has reiterated the importance of acting quickly to ensure implementation by January 1, 2026 at the latest. The letter addressed to the administration even proposes direct collaboration to accelerate the next steps.

A grassroots initiative, driven by solidarity.

This initiative was launched, documented, supported, and debated within the CPRE thanks to TAO. The measure, if accepted, fully embodies the values we uphold:

ü Social justice – Concrete assistance for the most vulnerable colleagues

ü Budgetary fairness – No impact on other employees

ü Pragmatism – A solution inspired by an already established and effective model

We remain mobilized and confident: TAO will continue to monitor this topic closely, rigorously, and with the utmost determination until it is accomplished.

Social progress is within reach for our colleagues—all that remains is to make it official.

Catering for Commission staff based in Brussels: TAO close to achieving a key breakthrough!

A concrete proposal to reduce prices for colleagues on the lowest salaries is on the table – thanks to TAO ‘s commitment. The CPRE supports the initiative, the administration is stalling… but the mobilization continues.
