ANNUAL MEDICAL CHECK

The annual medical examination is a mandatory formality for all civil servants and other active staff (temporary agents, contract staff) of the European Commission and agencies with an SLA (Service Level Agreement) on preventive medicine with DG HR.

For staff who do not hold high-risk positions, the annual medical examination no longer takes place at the premises of the Medical Service, as before. It must now be carried out with the general practitioner of your choice. This visit includes a series of biological tests (blood, urine, and stool) that can be done either by the Medical Service laboratory or by a laboratory of your choice. A consultation with your general practitioner is also foreseen, during which additional tests may be prescribed, if necessary.

Certain tests (ECG, vision test) can be performed at the Medical Service without a prescription, if your doctor considers it necessary. In this case, be sure to check the corresponding boxes when uploading the completed form via the eHealth portal. You will receive a notification via Outlook confirming the upload, and the FMB HR BXL ANNUAL VISIT. The attending physician will be informed if an appointment for these additional examinations (ECG / vision) is required, particularly for staff occupying a high-risk position…

For details on scheduling an appointment and requesting the form to be completed by the doctor, please visit the Staff Matters Annual Medical Examination page.

Please note: only the general practitioner consultation will be considered by the JSIS under the specific “Medical Service” program. Reimbursement for this visit is capped at EUR 50 (this cap applies to applications submitted from January 1, 2025). All other expenses related to the annual medical checkup must be submitted as a standard reimbursement request, according to the JSIS eligibility requirements.

Finally, to complete this annual health checkup, you can request (with the frequency varying depending on your age) an invitation to a screening program offered by the PMO. This program is also available for retired staff. You will find all information related to the screening program on the Screening Programs page.
